Support MOD08 features
I've been familiarizing myself with the various types of gridding operations supported in the MOD08 MODIS product. This ticket is meant as a place to list and discuss what features Yori is missing that we'd need in order to be able to reproduce MOD08. There are still some MOD08 constructs I need to spend a bit more time on to fully understand, but here's what I've uncovered so far:
-
Minimum / maximum So far we've just talked about storing
count
,sum
,sum_of_squares
,mean
, andstdev
. - QA weighting MOD08 allows variables to be gridded such that higher-quality observations/retrievals are given higher weighting in the statistics. One way I could see us supporting that sort of thing by extending the mask concept from simply boolean 0/1 to a floating point array of weights.
- Log stats For some variables (e.g., optical depths) MOD08 takes stats of the logarithm of the value instead of the value itself. Maybe we should support this as well, though I could also see placing the responsibility on the user to store logarithms in the input NetCDF file before invoking Yori.
- Joint / multivariate histograms We've talked a bit about this one already, but it's still not clear how we're going to support it.
